CodédexFounding Software Engineer
to NYC (Semi Remote)
First engineering hire; led the engineering team. Joined pre-revenue; Codédex now does $100k MRR, and he owned the platform the whole way.
Built the Codédex platform from scratch in Next.js + TypeScript on Firestore, now used by 2M+ learners. About 65% of the code in production is his.

Built Lumi, Codédex's on-platform learning agent, with Vercel AI SDK and Genkit + Gemini: streaming responses, tool calling, structured outputs, and RAG with embeddings over lesson content via Vertex AI Vector Search for context-aware tutoring. Handles real-time tutoring conversations across the course library.
Designed and shipped the code-evaluation system that grades learner submissions across every course: LLM-graded against generated test cases, run inside a sandboxed execution environment.
Built the daily challenges feature: LLM-generated coding challenges with test cases that run against learner code. Used Braintrust evals to score challenges pre-ship on problem clarity, difficulty calibration, and whether the generated test cases catch bugs when run against a reference solution and intentionally broken implementations.
Production observability for the LLM features via Braintrust tracing (prompt and response capture, cost per call, latency), with general APM for error rates and uptime.
Built and owned the entire component system in Styled Components: design tokens, layout primitives, form controls, modals, and the code-editor surface. Every product surface composes from these primitives.
Shipped the GitHub Education Pack integration that earned Codédex Phenomenal Education Partner at the GitHub Awards 2024.
Wrote the Stripe and PayPal payments stack (webhooks + reconciliation), plus the admin dashboard schools and bootcamps use to manage cohort access and learner progress.
Owned the release infrastructure: GitHub Actions CI/CD (cut deploy time 3× by removing the manual step) and a custom MDX to Firestore pipeline that ships new chapters from the curriculum repo with paywall config, badges, and seeding in a single deploy.
Built two services solo, both still in production: worlds-wss (the realtime WebSocket layer for Codédex Worlds) and the community Discord bot.
Owned production security (defended live DDoS attacks at multiple layers of the stack) and the data layer (production queries plus the retention and funnel dashboards the team used to decide what to ship). Infra optimization on the side saved Codédex over $20k/year.

Workshops: Build Your First AI Agent, Intro to Claude Code and Prompt Engineering 101
AI Assistant team in the Analytics Data Engineering Department, which oversees data from 70+ Rakuten Group businesses. The assistant turns stakeholders' natural-language questions into queries over that data, so non-engineers get insights without waiting on the data team. Highlights are from his first month.
Built the AI guardrails layer that validates what goes into the model and what comes out: prompt injection, off-scope requests, malicious queries, and PII in inputs and responses. The assistant now passes the team's full red-team set across all of those categories.

Brought LangSmith into the team's workflow: prompt versioning so every prompt change is reviewable and revertible, a 500-case eval suite that runs in CI on every change, and production tracing for prompt and response capture, latency, and cost per call.
Cut system prompt tokens by more than 50%, with the CI eval suite as the regression gate, so the reduction shipped without losing answer quality.
Implemented tool calling over WebMCP (Google's protocol for pages exposing tools to agents). The assistant runs in an iframe and talks to the host page through a postMessage handler, so any host page can publish tools the assistant may call without the assistant knowing the host's internals.
Added support for Chrome's native on-device AI, so the assistant can run eligible requests locally through the browser's built-in model instead of a round trip to the server.
